The 10th running of the Bay Run Half Marathon took place on May 15th 2016 with runners taking off at 10.30am. It is one of the most scenic Half-Marathons around, starting in beautiful Glengarriff and finishing in the town of Bantry. This year’s race was won by Alan O’Shea from Bantry AC in a time of 1:12:38 and the first woman home was Sarah Hartnett in 1:32:59. The 10k race was won by Frank Quinlan in 33:09 and the first woman home was Aoife Coughlan in 43:34.
The 13.1 mile route returned to the original route but there was a small detour, leaving the Glengarriff to Bantry main road at Ballylickey going to Pearsons Bridge and returning to the main road again at Reendonegan Lake. Runners also had the option of a 10k, for those not up to the longer distance on the day.
One of the most scenic road races anywhere in the country and as the saying goes, “Don’t let the scenery stop you …”, they didn’t.
